A Message from
Our Founder
Zalmai Nishat, the founder of Mosaic, along with some of Mosaic’s dedicated team, lived through Afghanistan’s conflicts in the 1980s, 1990s, and beyond.
“These experiences revealed how fragile institutions can fail citizens, leaving them vulnerable to violence and oppression. Since the Taliban reasserted control in August 2021, millions—especially women and girls—have felt a profound sense of powerlessness. The issues facing the region are similar and responses are too.
We believe the way forward lies in building strong foundations that unite diverse communities under a vision of equality for all—regardless of gender, ethnicity, language, or sect. By reimagining and improving state institutions and focusing on the delivery of services, we can promote a future where human rights and popular sovereignty are upheld. Mosaic calls for systems that truly represent every individual, ensuring that the mistakes of the past need never repeat themselves.”

Introduction
Welcome to Mosaic Global Foundation. In August 2022, it was originally formed as a non-profit and later established as a charity in the United Kingdom following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in August 2021. We are focussed on building partnerships which promote peace and cooperation in Central Asia to help a legacy for future generations.
“Mosaic Global Foundation is rooted in action: we deliver education, empower communities, and advocate for inclusive systems built on diversity, human rights, and shared prosperity.”

“Opening Minds, Changing Lives”

Since its emergence as a modern nation in the 1880s, Afghanistan has embraced several progressive ideas—most notably within the 1923 constitution, which championed equal rights for men and women. Despite these milestones, the country’s identity became tied to a single religion, ethnicity, and language, overshadowing Afghanistan’s rich cultural mosaic. Over time, this narrow focus on national identity—combined with crushing geopolitical pressures—contributed to repeated crises and ultimately paved the way for the Taliban’s harsh rule in August 2021.
Mosaic's Strategy
Mosaic proposes a transformative approach: envisioning a state unbound by any one religion, ethnicity, or language. We advocate an education system rooted in consensus-building, human rights, diversity, and pluralism. Our name, “Mosaic,” embodies this spirit of unity through diversity.
