Through culturally informed programmes, targeted training and essential skills development, we strengthen employability, deepen awareness of rights and responsibilities, and equip refugees and migrants to rebuild their lives with dignity. Our work creates inclusive environments where people can participate fully and contribute confidently to society.
Governance Pathways in Afghanistan
Afghanistan’s century of instability demands a fundamental governance reset. Through the Cambridge Afghanistan Series (CAS), we convene academics, civil society actors, policymakers and journalists to explore governance approaches that recognise the country’s inherent diversity and pluralism as the foundation of a multicultural, multi‑confessional society. The policy forum aims to reimagine future-state institutions capable of addressing the root causes of conflict, underdevelopment, and stalled regional integration.
What We Do
Inclusive & Diverse Civil Society Platforms
We work to amplify Afghanistan’s silenced civil society—suppressed since the Taliban’s return in 2021—and to give voice to exiled communities and the diaspora, including young people. We are promoting the creation of an inclusive, diverse and democratic civil society forum capable of articulating authentic perspectives on Afghanistan’s future. In the absence of legitimate governance, the world must listen to these voices.
Women’s Rights & Human Rights Promotion
We support women‑led campaigns, inside and outside Afghanistan, advocating for international recognition of the situation of women in Afghanistan as gender apartheid and for its criminalisation in international law. Our initiative seeks to bring together all those working for human rights, including women’s rights, under a unified platform to maximise policy impact and drive practical action. As the conditions facing women in Afghanistan remain catastrophic, coordinated advocacy is essential.
Empowering Through Education
We provide secret schooling for girls in grades 7–12, combining education with youth dialogue focused on critical thinking to counter extremism, and integrating women’s economic empowerment into a holistic model of support. We are working to develop an inclusive national curriculum and to build an education development alliance for Afghanistan to pursue sustainable, long‑term solutions, including the use of tech in education.
Women Economic Empowerment
Since the Taliban’s return in 2021, women have been stripped of employment opportunities across government, civil society and even small businesses such as beauty salons. We work to empower women entrepreneurs through mentorship, vocational training and teaching basis skills, seed funding and market access, and building an international alliance to support sustainable livelihoods. Financial independence enables women to claim their broader civil, social and political rights.
